This weekend we met up with some friends for the Best Day Ever at a family farm.
The Gasparilla parade was happening a mile from our house, where people like to pretend it's New Orleans Mardi Gras and do things that get them arrested. So, we planned our adventure as far away as possible.
I adopted a "little sister" for the day, and had a blast!
First stop on the tour was a hay ride through the farm. Nevermind the adorable calves with their mommies, we were fascinated by the giant piles of cow poop! Mom and Dad said maybe this place was closed down a few years ago due to an E.coli outbreak. Now there is a sanitizer station every 10 feet, let's hope it works.
Hands down, the best part of the day was catching chickens.
I was a natural. I could hang out with my fellow chicken whisperer cousin, Joli, all day here!
I caught 10 or more chickens. I just loved them.
Ryan was obsessed with their funny claw feet. And he had trouble remembering that chickens don't want kisses, they will peck your face.
And they don't love it when you pet their eyeballs.
Why can't we have a chicken coop in our back yard? Maggie would probably like it as much as I do.
I. Love. Them.
Next was learning to milk a cow.
The cow was very patient and sweet.
The kids were very patient and sweet.
Ryan jumped right in there.
So that's where milk comes from?!
"Thank you for the milk, cow."
I got this. Put me on a farm. I'm ready.
The pig was not as cute as Wilbur from Charlotte's Web. By the way, that's my new little sister hooked safely under my arm in the picture.
Ryan said his favorite was the rabbit area.
He kept saying "WHOA!" and petting the giant ears.
He had a special connection with the velveteen bunny.
We should get one of these for the back yard, too.
We got to ride beautiful horses by the lake.
And ponies.
Then we finished our fun with a picnic lunch.
The Moms tried to get a picture of all the kids together, but good luck with that.
We were sad to leave. I recruited Ryan to help me sneak our new little sister into the car. Maybe our parents will let us keep her.
I want to have my birthday party up here!
Later that afternoon, Dad found me on the patio setting up a nature trail for my chicken.
I think I can prove to them how a semi-urban farm could work.
