First Day of School!

Let's do this! We're making a fresh start at a new school.
We are excited because the school is small and the kids are nice. Dad is excited because we will learn the same values and lessons he learned in Catholic school growing up. Mom is excited because she loves the parents, teachers, and principal.
The first day was awesome.
Especially after the annual First Day Snack.
At the end of the first week, we were still smiling.
Maybe tired, but happy!

Solar Eclipse

Mom got too excited about this once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse. She had seen a partial eclipse as a 4th grader in Texas, and prepared us for a life changing event. She did not, however, prepare us with solar eclipse glasses.
Life lesson- those glasses sell out, so you should get them early. We made pinhole viewers instead!
They were completely useless, we saw absolutely nothing. But... we did capture a lens reflection of the eclipse on her phone, there it is on my face:
and to the left of the Eggo box.
We did notice how the light was super creepy gray, and the temperature dropped at least 10 degrees. We'll count this as making memories

Selfies and Portraits

Sometimes you find beautiful things on your phone. Beautiful freckled things.
Beautiful duck mouth things.
And sometimes you want to capture a sweet moment on Daddy Daughter dates to Oxford Exchange.
Or Mommy Daughter dates with the perfect macaron.
And baseball games,
when you're trying to develop a more natural smile for the camera.

The Art of the Brick

Artist Nathan Sawaya brought his Lego art exhibit to town, free to the public, all you had to do was wait in line outside. In the sun. And let's be honest, Florida is hateful in August.
But, once we got inside, we realized it was THE COOLEST THING WE HAD EVER SEEN.
Even Mom was geeking out. It all starts with one brick:
He made everything out of Legos. Everything.
We couldn't wait to get home and start creating with our own Legos.
This exhibit should be mandatory viewing for everyone.

Summer Rock Climbing

The trip to Colorado was inspiring, so we decided to become master mountaineers during our week at Camp Mom.
It was Ryan's first time, so in true Ryan style, he went from cautiously repelling down,
to free climbing 10 minutes later, asking if he could jump from the top.
