Spring Break Sedona

We ended our trip in the gorgeous red rocks of Sedona, definitely our favorite part of the week. First stop, Slide Rock Park, where a creek goes over slippery rocks and people slide on them.
It was cool to see the different layers and colors of rock in the Grand Canyon, then to drive down the mountains to the "red layer" altitude.
We shopped in the cool artsy downtown, where we learned about healing crystals and vortexes. Vortexes are swirling centers of energy that are conducive to healing, meditation, and self-exploration. These are places where the earth seems especially alive with energy.
I'm inclined to believe in vortexes, because we felt the healing powers of a delicious southwest Mex lunch, with the best fresh salsa we've tasted since eating in Austin in 2008.
Mom has cropped all the pictures to make the memories more peaceful and meditative. Like here, where she cropped out the GAZILLION OTHER TOURISTS in traffic.
We tucked away in a small, hidden resort for the end of the trip. And it was wicked awesome.
We hiked on the trails.
And visited the Boynton Canyon vortex. This vortex has both masculine and feminine energies, which is ideal for balancing energy within oneself and with relationships. It also has a guy who climbs to the top every day to play the flute.
Here we are, feeling balanced at the vortex.
Happier already!
It was a gorgeous end to our vacation.
The resort had sweet deer roaming everywhere.
And cool southwestern art.
On our last night we drove out to a local school soccer field for a Sedona Stargazing adventure with adorable astronomer nerds. We loved it- you could see a million stars in the pitch black night, and they showed us cool stuff with their giant telescopes. But we couldn't handle the later bedtime. It was a perfect ending to a great vacation!

Spring Break Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon really is as beautiful as everyone says!
We did an easy visit, only hiking along the south rim. We didn't take the trail down into the canyon with the donkeys, but it looked beautiful.
The local elk didn't seem to mind the gazillion visitors in their park.
We spent one night there in a lodge, and got up early in the morning to explore.
We did ALOT of walking. Walking, walking, walking.
And ALOT of picture taking.
You wouldn't believe some of the crazy people walking out to dangerous spots to get a picture or selfie.
We preferred the safe spots, far away from the edge.
We also did the Junior Ranger program, where we learned about the rocks and history of the Grand Canyon.
We learned about safety, and how to Don't Be Like Victor.

Spring Break Route 66

The second stop on our adventure week was in a tiny town on Route 66. They say it's the town that inspired Radiator Springs in the movie, Cars.
It's the depot for Grand Canyon Railway.
There isn't much to do there. But the buffet dinner was pretty awesome!
We rode the train up to the Grand Canyon, looking for adorable prairie dogs.
It was a fun way to travel, with 5,000 of our closest friends.
