There isn't much on Anna Maria, which is why we love it. Anyway, if you have a Publix that sells Ghiradelli brownie mix, ice cream and shrimp cocktail, what more could you possibly need?
So, a walk to the pier is considered an event. It's fun to walk down to see pelicans, egrets, and an occasional manatee.
The thing we always forget is how the heat and humidity this time of year makes it feel like you're walking on the surface of the sun.
Remind me to ask Mom to get a gray T-shirt for Ryan. He loves his Dad and Papa.
Second to the pier is THE NEW DOUGHNUT SHOP.
Fresh fried, made to order, dipped in the glaze and toppings of your choice. Oh. My. Heaven. We went there alot. Nana hated it. I think she was just being loyal to Dunkin Donuts, and I have to admire her for that.
The doughnuts were great, but when Mom asked what my favorite part of the trip was, I replied that it was when Kalyn braided my hair.
She shared some of her middle school wisdom, like how to deal with mean girls who are worms. And how to sleep until noon during the summer.
There are lots of sea turtle egg nests on the island. Dad let us watch a really neat documentary about how the baby turtles hatch and walk to the ocean. He turned it off pretty quickly when seagulls and crabs started picking off the turtles. Yikes!
