AMI Doughnuts and Beach Days

This doughnut shop opened last year, and now it is the main attraction on the island. Hot fried dough gets dipped in glaze and sprinkles. It's like a little piece of Heaven.
Or Hell. Because they are addictive.
We liked to walk down to the doughnut shop first thing in the morning to get our fix.
Sugar glaze, sprinkles, and coffee. It just doesn't get much better than that.
Or does it?
The rest of our mornings were usually spent at the beach. These pictures were taken over several days, so please ignore the different bathing suits as we try to create a collage of a typical perfect beach day...
Step 1: Say a little prayer of gratitude that Ryan is 3 years old, making a trip to the beach exponentially easier now. Step 2: Cover every inch of your body in sunscreen. Then put on long sleeves, hat, and sunglasses.
The beach was an easy walk from the house, so we would load up our wagons and march over in style.
AMI beaches are the best around.
Dad brought his fishing rod to the beach, hoping to catch The Great Snook this year. He used a net to catch loads of bait fish, and saved them in a bucket. We thought they were just for us to play with, but he actually needed them to bait his hooks.
This friendly egret decided to adopt Dad as his personal fishmonger. He would patiently wait for Dad on the beach, and snatch up a few fish from the net when he dragged it in. Then he perched on top of the bucket and started snacking on all the fish like it was a buffet.
Dad had to get creative to save his bait supply. That's our little buddy on the bottom left, watching Dad, like a faithful dog.
We realized quickly that bait fish quickly become dead bait fish when you bury them in the sand and/or squish their eyeballs.
This year our goal was to see more sunsets on the beach.
One year we hope to stay out all night to watch the baby sea turtles hatch and make their way to the ocean. There are lots and lots of sea turtle egg nests all over the island.
The late afternoons were the calmest, coolest time.
But this was also when sharks feed, so we didn't go out too far!
