September 2019: Big Danny was the 50 year old highlight of the entire trip. He lives at The Elephant Cafe sanctuary on the Zambezi River, just upstream from Victoria Falls.
All of the elephants roam freely on the sanctuary property, then come in at night to sleep in a fortified building watched by armed guards. The goal is to protect them, especially Danny with his giant tusks.
And Big Bob, the 65 year old with his relatable back.
Sekuti is a 10 year old boy who showed up 5 years ago with the herd as a surprise one night. They suspect he got washed down the river during a flood, and the sanctuary elephant females adopted him as their own.
We would have adopted him, too.
Mashumbi is the 38 year old mother. She eats like it's her job.
Mom said she can relate to that.
And baby Muyni, a 5 year old cutie.
It was the perfect last day of a perfect trip.
