The Royal Livingstone

September 2019: Last stop was Zambia, at the historic Royal Livingstone Hotel at Victoria Falls.
We're using some stock photos from Google in this post.
During the rainy season, you can hear the thundering water from the hotel and see the spray rise up into the sky. Here is a Google view.
It was the dry season for this trip, so the river and falls were calm.
This deck was perfect for hippo watching during the day and hippo grunting concerts at night. They swim out to the middle of the river during the daytime, and come back to shore to fight at night.
The hotel recommends that guests do not try to swim with them in the river. They also incentivize the hippos to stay in the river.
The hotel itself was like stepping back in time to an old world colonial museum.
It felt like living in a zoo, where zebras casually check out your dinner buffet.
Breakfasts were closely guarded via sling shot to keep the pesky monkeys in check.
Giraffes snack freely outside your rooms.
Definitely a magical place.
